With Voidtools Everything installed, file results come from its index. Without it, Nex walks your roots and watches for changes.

Play, pause, skip, and set the volume from the panel. The same glass, a smaller surface, and no media window to hunt for.
Version 2.28 stopped faking the blur. The panel captures the desktop behind it, bends that image at the rim, then draws its own contact shadow. If the GPU path cannot start, it falls back to an opaque surface instead of a blank window.
The real panel carries WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE, the OS flag honored by screenshots, OBS, and Discord, so the material never appears in a capture. The previews render it in the browser. The native tint also follows the backdrop, switching at 0.55 luma; these static previews stay on the dark tint.
Every setting lives in a TOML file you can read, diff, and keep in your dotfiles. Save it and most changes apply about a second later. The hotkey and the index path need a restart.

Most of this release is under the glass: opening the panel is quicker and the backdrop keeps up with the window at your monitor's refresh rate instead of a fixed 60 Hz. Nothing about how nex looks or behaves has changed.
The app has a new icon. Same launcher, new face: the orange mark replaces the blue magnifier in the taskbar, the tray, the Start menu shortcut, the installer and the window.
